e-Learning Guidelines Project: Copyright Resources

Copyright and intellectual property laws and contracts present a significant challenge to TEOs and staff engaged in e-learning development and delivery particularly in New Zealand. This project developed detailed information with the objective of providing a clear understanding of the legal avenues available for e-learning content reuse and development in New Zealand.

The information developed in this project is part of the New Zealand e-Learning Guidelines and addresses the following guidelines:

TD14
Are e-learning materials within the boundaries of copyright and licence agreements?
MO19
Does the institution have policies and agreements on ownership of intellectual property relating to e-learning?
MO22
Are processes in place to ensure legal requirements of copyright and intellectual property?

The current version of the resources can be viewed here. Please note that the current version's stylesheet is not compatible with Internet Explorer. An updated version will be available shortly.

If you have used the resources and would like to provide feedback, please complete the feedback form.

If you would like a copy of the resources to adapt for your own use, please check the license terms, and then download the resources in zip format. The system requires the use of Apache server side includes.

A report analysing the policy coverage of copyright by New Zealand universities and polytechnics is also available.

Acknowledgements

The assistance of the staff of the various New Zealand TEOs who provided their copyright policies is acknowledged with gratitude, as is the assistance of Warren Sellers in the analysis of the policies.
