Student Feedback on Courses, Teaching and Tutoring

One of the UTDC's core functions is to administer and support the University's processes which provide student feedback on courses and teaching. To that end, the UTDC provides both formal and informal feedback on teaching and courses, as well as related summary information required for academic probation and promotion processes, academic programme reviews, accreditation applications, academic audits and other quality assurance and enhancement processes.

Create Feedback Form

If you have problems creating a form, please request feedback forms by contacting the Evaluations Administrator on ext 5306 or email Evaluations@vuw.ac.nz.

Feedback Questions

The standard and opitional questions used for student feedback on courses, teaching, and tutoring.

Instructions for use of the Feedback Form

Please print all of the PDF feedback forms using Acrobat software onto the MFD printers. Photocopied forms and forms printed from other software cannot be processed quickly and may result in significant delays in receiving the results and TPP summaries.

Once you have received the feedback form from the UTDC, or generated it yourself using the online system, you are responsible for the following:

  • Printing sufficient copies of the feedback form from the original PDF file on an MFD printer;
  • Distributing the feedback form to students at the start of the class;
  • Arranging for a colleague or student to administer and collect the completed feedback forms from the class. The forms should then be sealed in the security envelope provided* (course and teaching feedback forms should be in separate envelopes); and
  • Returning the sealed envelope to the UTDC via the VUW internal mail system, or delivering to 10 Waiteata Road.

Please note that only forms produced by the UTDC, or through the online system, will be processed by the UTDC. This ensures the process runs smoothly and that results are valid. A new form must be used each time student feedback is sought for a course or for personal teaching; students must not be asked to complete old forms from previous evaluations, nor is it permissible to use a form that was originally created for another staff member or course. In cases where the UTDC has no guarantee that valid procedures were followed, evaluations may not be processed.

* Security envelopes are available from the UTDC or from school administrators.

When is the Best Time to Seek Student Feedback?

 Student feedback should be sought at an optimum time, i.e.:

  • When most students are present: not in the last week of the trimester;
  • When assessment work is not being collected/returned to students;
  • When tests are not being carried out, nor test results distributed; and
  • In the last third of a course (for course feedback) or at the end of an individual lecturer’s contribution to the course (for feedback on personal teaching)
