Orientation to Academic Life @ VictoriaThe Orientation to Academic Life Programme run by the University Teaching Development Centre (CAD) and the Research Office is designed to introduce new academic staff to a range of topics that have a direct impact on their academic life at VUW. The next Orientation will run on the 14th, 15th and 16th of February 2012. If you are new to Victoria, or have not attended an Orientation, please contact Anna Nguyen (x9786) to let her know that you plan to attend. RequirementsIt is a university requirement that ALL newly appointed teaching staff (regardless of experience and including those on short-term appointments) attend the Orientation programme during the first 12 months of their employment. Furthermore, staff with less than three years of tertiary teaching experience are expected to complete a total of 20 hours of professional development within their first two years of employment. Please speak to the CAD about where you fit into these requirements if you have any questions or concerns. FormatThe Orientation to Academic Life programme runs three times a year, in February, April and August. The first day (14 February) is for all new teaching staff, regardless of prior teaching experience. The second day (15 February) is aimed at people new to teaching, but we encourage you all to attend. All the workshops are interactive, practical sessions, informed by relevant research and run by experienced facilitators. The last day (16 February) is run by the Research Office and focuses on introducing academics new to Victoria to the various reserach services, support, grants, expectations and possibilities at Victoria. Please contact Naomi Wood for Research enquiries. We look forward to seeing you in February 2012 at the Alan MacDiarmid Building, Kelburn Campus, Room 101.
