Blackboard Tutorial: Creating Surveys in BlackboardSurveys Surveys differ from tests in that they are anonymous – surveys do not identify an individual’s response to a question, just the number of individuals who answered in a certain way. The results are presented in the Gradebook as percentages and answers to open-ended questions are grouped together for each question. Surveys are not graded. Creating a Survey
The Survey canvas window will now open Creation Settings for the Survey You have the option of adding files, images and urls to your questions and/or answers. Ticking one of these enables you to attach images while adding questions/answers. Select those you wish to apply to the Survey and click on submit. Now start adding the questions.
Enter as many as required by repeating the above steps. Tip: You can also add questions from a question pool, prepared in advance or exported from a different course, or from another survey (assessment). You can also upload questions form a file, prepared in advance. Please note although surveys do not use the correct/incorrect answers, if you are uploading your questions from a file, your are still required to fill out the correct/incorrect fields for Multiple Choice and Multiple Answer questions types. You can simply put incorrect for all answers, because this field in not going to be used to mark the results. To see how to create a file for uploading click here You can re-order Survey questions by clicking on the number beside them. You can make changes to a question by using the Modify button and you can remove questions. When you are satisfied with your survey design, layout and content click on the OK button. Making a Survey available Go to the content area you wish to add the Survey to. Control Panel > Content Area > Course Resources and use the “Select drop down box” on the top right to select Survey and click on the “Go” Button. Select the Survey you wish to add from the Select Survey below list and click on submit. Click OK to acknowledge the receipt. Now to customise and make the Survey available to your students click on “Modify the Survey options” In this section you will be able to make the Survey available and set options for how it will be presented to students. To make your survey available to students, click Yes for “Make the link available”. Once the survey is available, students can take it straight away, unless you select a later date under “Display After”. Make sure that you make all the changes to the survey before you make it available to students. Do you wish to allow students to take the Survey more than once? If so the multiple attempts option should be ticked. Do you wish to impose a time limit? Force completion once they start or allow them to save and come back later? Restrict the viewing of the Survey to a specified time frame? Decide on what Feedback options you prefer – detailed (displaying survey questions and student answers) or status only. |
