Responsibilities

Irina provides professional development and support for University staff in flexible and distance teaching and learning. She also coordinates UTDC work related to the web-based teaching and learning platform, Blackboard. She teaches on the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning and Teaching (PHELT) programme and MA Programme in Applied Linguistics and TESOL of the Schools of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies. Irina also occasionally teaches in the New Zealand School of Music.

Background

Irina has a PhD and MA in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University, and an MA in Education from the Pedagogical University in St Petersburg, Russia. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Research Interests

Irina's research interests include second and foreign language (L2) vocabulary acquisition, L2 reading, computer assisted language learning (CALL), and flexible learning and educational technology.
